Review: HPV test better than repeat cytology in cervical screening

A DNA-based human papillomavirus test is more accurate than repeat cytology in detecting cervical cancer in women with an abnormal Pap smear, according to a meta-analysis in Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews. Compared with repeat cytology, the HPV test had 27% better sensitivity and comparable specificity in finding high-grade cervical precancers.
