Arctic summit turns frosty

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton left a meeting convened in Canada on the Arctic region after she said Canada had not invited all those countries with legitimate Arctic interests. Though Canada invited officials from some Arctic Council countries -- the U.S., Canada, Russia, Norway and Denmark -- they neglected to invite representatives from Sweden, Finland, Iceland and the Inuit Circumpolar Council. Afterward, Canadian Foreign Minister Lawrence Cannon reiterated the Canadian position that the broader convention of Arctic states will determine the fate of the energy-rich Arctic region.
