Analysis: Sony's UMD as movie platform faces challenges

Retailers are cutting shelf space for prerecorded movies on Sony's Universal Media Disc format, which was designed for its PlayStation Portable device. "We're hoping the format's going to be reinvigorated with next-generation capability that may include living-room or normal television playback," said Benjamin Feingold, president of Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.
