IDC: Asia-Pacific utilities face roadblocks to smart-grid adoption

Governments in the Asia-Pacific region are not adequately committed to funding energy efficiency and sustainability projects in their countries, a factor that promises to be a challenge for utilities seeking to meet smart-grid goals there, according to IDC. The research firm says funding is one of several challenges that Asia-Pacific utilities face, along with a dearth of energy storage technologies and slow cloud adoption. Companies are expected to focus on customer-facing solutions until regulatory and market forces mature.
