Giant panda undergoes artificial insemination

On Saturday, veterinarians from the National Zoo and the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda artificially inseminated the National Zoo's female panda, Mei Xiang, with fresh and frozen semen from her healthy, but apparently somewhat inexperienced, male mate. Mei Xiang's previous cub, born in the fall, died shortly after birth.
