Efforts to lessen wildfire risk paid off in Colo., report says

Initiatives in Colorado Springs, Colo., helped protect thousands of properties from the Waldo Canyon fire in 2012, according to a report from the U.S. Forest Service, the Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety, the National Fire Protection Association and The Nature Conservancy. Measures aimed at reducing wildfire risk saved about 80% of homes that were at risk during the fire, experts say.
