Tung Trinh, a middle-school geography teacher at Garrison Forest School, Owings Mills, Md., uses the New York Times online to teach students about history and current events. To begin, students read the newspaper, look for topics to research further and use as the basis for writing workshops. "[Overall], giving students the power of choosing their topics is what hooked them. From there, I could really work with them to critically think about their topic, take into account multiple perspectives, and eventually develop a firm opinion on a current issue," Trinh writes in this blog post.
