Minn. schools consider standardized approach to grading students

School districts in Minnesota and others nationwide are considering replacing traditional grading systems -- in which students' attitudes and work habits are factored into grades -- with standards-based grading systems. Under standards-based grading, students' mastery of a subject according to the state's academic standards is prioritized. The practice is growing more popular among educators who find that many factors at play in traditional grading have resulted in a disconnect between students' classroom grades and their performance on standardized tests.
