Tea grows more popular as science shows health benefits

Tea is the second-most-consumed drink in the world behind water, and U.S. consumers are starting to drink more of it as science continues to reveal its contributions to fighting cardiovascular disease, burning calories and warding off some types of cancer. Annual supermarket sales of tea topped $2.2 billion last year, and while coffee is still the top beverage of choice in America, away-from-home tea drinking has risen about 10% per year for the past decade, according to the Tea Association of the USA.
