CFO: Canada's retailers give Target a run for its money

Canada's retail scene is proving more competitive for Target, CFO John Mulligan said at a retail conference, especially in the grocery arena where the US retailer, which opened its first 24 Canadian stores last month, faces strong competition. "The grocery retailers are very strong, much stronger than in the U.S. Canadian Tire is an outstanding operator … Wal-Mart is formidable wherever they operate. We recognize that we need to do the things we do well extremely well," said Mulligan.
