Demographics, common core fuel hiring trends among teachers

Demographic shifts among students are fueling hiring for teachers specializing in special education and English-language learning. Hiring also is up among teachers specializing in math and science, following a call last year from President Barack Obama to recruit 100,000 math and science teachers during the next decade to boost student achievement in those subjects and to implement the Common Core State Standards.
