Deployment change causes concern for Reserve, Guard

Reserve advocates say a recent decision by the Army to replace National Guard troops scheduled to deploy to Africa with active-duty troops is a sign that the military is looking to rely less on its reserve components. "This is what the Guard and Reserve have been worried about, after performing magnificently for more than 10 years in combat," said retired Marine Corps Reserve Gen. Arnold Punaro. Army officials say fears stemming from the deployment change are unfounded.
