Verizon will try out "micro-trenching" in NYC sidewalks

Verizon Communications has received the go-ahead from New York City to proceed with "micro-trenching," using small cuts in city sidewalks to install fiber-optic cables that have the potential to enable the telecom to offer speedier connections in more neighborhoods. Under the pilot program, Verizon will test the installation method, also known as saw cutting, at a dozen sites across the city.
