What do 9-1-1 dispatchers need?

Indianapolis Fire Department dispatchers took more than a half-million 9-1-1 calls last year, while Marion County, Ind., handled twice as many. And cellphones mean call volume has ballooned, officials say. April is National 9-1-1 Education Month and IFD dispatchers took the opportunity to remind callers that dispatchers ask questions the way they do for specific reasons. Dispatchers say they need quick and accurate information about a caller's location and phone number, the site of the emergency and a description of the problem.
