Authority sticks by plan to build 16-story ventilation tower in Manhattan, despite opposition

New York City's Metropolitan Transportation Authority is not budging on its plan to build a 16-story ventilation tower in Midtown Manhattan, but opponents of the project, including nearby residents, business owners and the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New York, say they will continue to fight against its construction. The authority says the tower is essential to a $6.3 billion project to connect the Long Island Rail Road with Grand Central Terminal.
