Constellation program to boost contractor payouts

NASA says contractors on the next-generation Orion spacecraft and Ares I rocket can expect "substantial" contract modifications this spring. "We've matured the design substantially, so there will be new costs because we made it harder to build," said Constellation Program Manager Jeff Hanley. Lockheed Martin Corp. alone should get $1.8 billion, AviationWeek reports, while ATK, Boeing and Pratt & Whitney Rocketdyne also are expected to benefit.
