EU will probe Motorola on rivals' patent complaints

The European Union's antitrust regulator says it has followed up on complaints from Apple and Microsoft by opening an inquiry into Motorola Mobility's procedures for issuing licenses for standards-essential patents. Also, Motorola reportedly has demanded that Microsoft pay $4 billion a year in royalties in connection with the companies' patent dispute over Microsoft's Xbox gaming system and Motorola's Android-based smartphones.
