Ruling raises fears of more mold-related lawsuits in N.Y.

Lawyers say an appeals court decision in Manhattan, N.Y., could lead to more mold-related lawsuits, resulting in higher insurance premiums and other costs for landlords as well as condo and co-op boards. The case involved a woman suing for $11.8 million in damages, mostly health related, over mold in the building where she lived. Four years ago, judges denied an award in the case, but the recent ruling states that scientific findings are now "indicative of a causal relationship" between mold and illness.
