AdvaMed asks for clarity on medical device tax rules

AdvaMed has called on the Internal Revenue Service to clear up some of the uncertainty surrounding the 2.3% medical device tax, including a confirmation that the tax would not apply to refurbished or repaired equipment. In a comment letter, the group also urged the IRS to ensure that devices donated for disaster relief or medical missions are exempt from the tax. "To implement this tax has been extremely burdensome to our companies," said AdvaMed General Counsel and Executive Vice President Chris White.
