Apptopia's algorithm looks at app's activity to determine ROI

Apptopia is shifting its business model from sales to providing analysis of a prospective application's future success. A new Apptopia algorithm offers "a six-month projection for an app based on data currently available ... the six-month projected revenue for an app, as well as the projected monthly ad revenue for an app before ads are even installed," Emily Price writes. The analysis is based on such factors as platform, ratings and reviews.
