"Bertha" arrives in Seattle for tunnel project

An $80 million, 57-foot-diameter tunnel-boring machine referred to as "Bertha" has arrived in Seattle in pieces aboard a heavy-lift vessel from Japan. The machine will be used in a $3.14 billion project to replace a waterfront viaduct with a tunnel. The tunnel is scheduled to open in late 2015.
