Canadian middle-school students conduct letter-writing campaign

Students in Sandi Rae's Grade 9 leadership class at Mt. Slesse Middle School in Vancouver, Canada, have been learning about persuasive writing, so they put those skills to work after media reports about the closure of a residential treatment program for at-risk women. They started a letter-writing campaign, which has resulted in 400 letters, and made presentations to other classrooms and other schools to generate more interest, Craig and Marc Kielburger, co-founders of international charity and educational partner Free The Children, write in this blog post. "Ideally, they're going to grow up to form political opinions and join service groups," Rae said.
