Corn acreage to shrink in areas hardest hit by 2012 drought

Farmers apparently are avoiding planting corn in areas that bore the brunt of last year's historic drought, according to an analysis of the Department of Agriculture's latest corn acreage estimate by University of Illinois agricultural economist Gary Schnitkey. "It is interesting to note that corn acreage is projected to decrease in states where the 2012 drought was the worst," Schnitkey said.
