GAO criticizes advice on 401(k) rollovers

The Government Accountability Office has called on the Labor and Treasury departments to issue uniform standards governing information received by Americans about rolling over a 401(k) plan when they leave a company. Some participants are making bad decisions on 401(k) rollovers because they are given false or misleading information about options and cost, the GAO says.
