Among the top 10 semiconductor suppliers in the world, only Samsung Electronics, Qualcomm and Broadcom posted gains in IC sales during 2012, a year that saw the worldwide semiconductor market shrink by 2.6% from 2011 to $299.9 billion, according to Gartner. Qualcomm grew its 2012 chip sales by 31.8% and moved from sixth place in the world to third, the market research firm estimates. Broadcom increased its 2012 sales by 9.6%, inching up to ninth place from 10th in 2011. Intel continued to lead the market with a 16.4% share.
