BMW engineers in Mountain View, Calif., are working to develop next-generation technologies that could lead to sustainable vehicles. Among their concepts: intelligent stoplights that teach drivers to operate their vehicles more efficiently, repurposing facilities for depleted lithium-ion batteries and "solar trees" capable of producing enough energy to power an electric car.
