Manufacturers tap veterans for new hires

American manufacturers are stepping up to hire veterans. Nearly 10% of Iraq and Afghanistan veterans are unemployed, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. A new program, Get Skills to Work, helps veterans get the training they need to translate their military experience to the civilian workforce. Four major manufacturers -- Alcoa, Boeing, Lockheed Martin and General Electric -- are working with the Manufacturing Institute to help 15,000 veterans make the transition to manufacturing careers.
