Mass. students use documents to learn about city government

Good Government Day in Taunton, Mass., is a decades-old tradition for Taunton High School students to learn about the operations of municipal government. Students recently examined documents, such as their parents' municipal tax bills and an agreement with the Mashpee Wampanoag tribe regarding a planned casino. "I thought it would be neat if the kids got the flavor of government through the documents," said Peter Gillen, Taunton High social studies teacher.
