More U.S. children are getting melanoma

Pediatric cases of melanoma remain rare, but rates of the most fatal form of skin cancer among patients up to age 19 increased by about 2% annually from 1973 to 2009, new research finds. Researchers noted that the highest spike in melanoma rates among youths was seen in 15- to 19-year-olds, particularly girls. The findings appear in the journal Pediatrics.
