Report: La. lacks evidence that some storm-relief aid was used properly

Some homeowners affected by hurricanes Katrina and Rita in Louisiana might have used federal grants for purposes other than elevating their properties, according to a report from the Department of Housing and Urban Development's inspector general. Louisiana "did not have conclusive evidence" to show that $698.5 million in aid went to home-elevation projects, the report said. The federal government has placed stricter requirements on aid to Hurricane Sandy victims "to ensure recovery funds are used appropriately," said Jason Kravitz, a spokesman for the department.
