Universities buck trend by adding humanities faculty

While other universities pare down their humanities departments, the University of Connecticut at Storrs and the University of Southern California are adding faculty to their philosophy departments. The expansions are being attributed to support from the schools' administrations and a focus on interdisciplinary programs. "At a time in which [humanities programs] are losing majors everywhere, we doubled," said Scott Soames, USC philosophy chairman.
