Update: Recipients of organs from donor with rabies out of danger

According to the CDC, three transplant patients who received organs from a donor later confirmed to have died from rabies are no longer at risk for the disease because they finished post-exposure prophylaxis treatment. Another patient died 18 months after receiving an organ from the infected donor. Twenty-eight of the 36 people who had contact with the patients and were encouraged to get treatment have done so.
