Alaska wind-farm developer criticizes rate offer from utility

Cook Inlet Region Inc, developer of a wind project on Fire Island, Alaska, has balked at the terms offered by Municipal Light and Power for the site's electricity. ML&P's offer to pay $30.20 per megawatt hour during the initial year is less than the average price the utility pays other sources, said Ethan Schutt, senior vice president of CIRI. In addition, ML&P's requirement that CIRI forecast wind power one day ahead is "unworkable," Schutt added.
