California PUC challenges smart meter moratoriums

A push by some California communities to stop the deployment of wireless smart meters has hit a roadblock, with the California Public Utilities Commission saying municipalities have no authority to make such a move without regulatory approval. At least a dozen cities and towns have issued moratoriums on the meters because of alleged billing inaccuracies and concerns about the possible effect of the meters on public health.
