ACI reaffirms triclosan safety as Canada scrutinizes its use

Canada released a draft assessment of triclosan on Saturday that affirmed its safety in humans while posing questions about its potential environmental effects. The assessment will lead to government talks with industry about potential voluntary reductions in its use. "A number of governmental bodies in the U.S. and around the world have determined the safe uses of triclosan and the products containing it; product manufacturers must abide by those safety rules," said Richard Sedlak, the American Cleaning Institute's senior vice president for technical and international affairs.
