Biobased glycols are gaining attention and investment beyond traditional sectors such as oleochemicals. DuPont and other companies are exploring biofuel uses, while Solvay already produces propylene glycol and epichlorohydrin at a plant in Thailand. "Bio-derivatives may not reach into every product slate in the petrochemical groups. But as the bio-derivative products filter into commercial markets, then competition and co-existence can be expected," predicts Judith Taylor.
