Misconceptions abound about the nature of migration caused by environmental change, according to this article. Most migration occurs within a country, and it's usually not the poorest residents who move. "The people we should really be thinking about are not the refugees, but those who stay behind, who may wish to migrate but can't," said University of Oxford geographer David Thomas.
