Coalition calls for more hepatitis C tests for baby boomers

The National Viral Hepatitis Roundtable coalition is circulating a letter calling on U.S. health officials to approve hepatitis C tests as part of older Americans' first exam under Medicare. Baby boomers account for three-quarters of U.S. hepatitis C cases, and tests may save more than 100,000 lives, the coalition said. The coalition is seeking signatories to the letter prior to delivery to HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius on May 1, the beginning of Hepatitis Awareness Month.
