Construction groups oppose agreement on guest-worker program

The agreement reached by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and labor groups on the guest-worker program would limit the number of visas for construction to 15,000, but some trade groups say that number should be guided by the market. "A guest worker program that fails to provide a sufficient number of visas to meet market demand as the construction sector recovers will inevitably make it harder to fill critical labor openings and make it impossible to secure the border," according to a statement issued by several construction groups, including the National Roofing Contractors Association.
