High-speed N.C. network has high-profile bidder in Time Warner Cable

Time Warner Cable is among the bidders for the North Carolina Next Generation Network project, which seeks to build a regional, high-speed network with download speeds of 1 gigabit per second. The project is part of the national Gig.U effort, which includes Wake Forest University and Duke University, among some three dozen schools. "To have Time Warner Cable to throw its hat in the ring puts some significant weight behind the project, and it's a good sign that the network is moving forward," said Eric Tomlinson, president of the Wake Forest Innovation Quarter and chief financial officer of Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.
