Disney has laid off the employees at LucasArts, the video games unit of Lucasfilm. LucasArts hasn't released a new game that it produced since 2010. "After evaluating our position in the games market, we've decided to shift LucasArts from an internal development to a licensing model, minimizing the company's risk while achieving a broader portfolio of quality Star Wars games," Lucasfilm said in a statement. The NPD Group estimates that the unit's U.S. retail sales shrank to $55 million in 2012, compared with $173 million six years earlier.
