NYC educator weighs in about challenges of math standards

In response to a question about the biggest challenges facing New York City teachers during the transition to Common Core State Standards, Bushra Makiya, an eighth-grade math teacher, said she appreciates how the new math standards emphasize problem-solving. She acknowledges that there will be many challenges during the transition, but adds that she remains optimistic about the long-term rewards of the standards.
