Rovio brings Angry Birds Friends to mobile apps

Rovio has launched iOS and Android applications of Angry Birds Friends, a mobile version of the social game that has been running on Facebook. "It is ... an essential move to respond to current trends in gaming, which see the vast majority of the most popular games favoring a free-to-download model with revenues picked up through in-app purchases," Ingrid Lunden writes. The announcement comes on the heels of Rovio's annual report, which showed 45% of Rovio's $195 million revenue in 2012 came from nongaming activities such as intellectual property licensing and related merchandise.
