T-Mobile USA increased its subscriber base by 579,000 in the first quarter, the carrier estimated on Wednesday. Although nearly 200,000 contract customers left the company, the number of defections fell by more than 60% from the previous quarter. Also, churn dipped to 1.9%, marking T-Mobile's best performance in four years. The improvement comes as the carrier has shifted its strategy by eliminating contracts and phone subsidies.
