An animated guide to potato-chip innovation

Herr's potato chip factory in Nottingham, Pa., has come a long way since it opened its doors in 1946. Back then, the Herr family cooked and packaged chips by hand, but these days, everything is automated. These animated images show some of the factory's most innovative systems, including a lift that tilts trucks so that potatoes roll out, eliminating the need to unload by hand.
