Army urges VA to do more on claims backlog

Army officials are calling on the Department of Veterans Affairs to add more personnel to help reduce the backlog of ill and wounded soldiers who are waiting on disability evaluations before they can leave the service. To reduce its backlog, the Army has increased staffing and invested millions in a collaboration with the VA. Meanwhile, the VA says it is using all of its resources to handle the 900,000 disability claims it has pending, which do not include the 27,000 soldiers awaiting evaluations for a medical discharge.
