Bring-your-own-device policies offer a variety of productivity benefits to firms by giving employees the flexibility to optimize their time and freeing IT from the role of device manager, but when it comes to cost, a case could be made for sticking with so-called corporate-liable devices that are owned by the organization. According to commentator Brian Katz, by offering employees a stipend for their device use, companies sacrifice the economy of scale they enjoy by pooling their mobile resources, which can often lead to a trickle of lost savings that adds up at the end of the year.
