Haynesville Shale boosts La. in competition for petrochemical projects

Louisiana's natural gas resources from the Haynesville Shale are driving chemical and petrochemical growth in the region as firms such as Methanex establish production to take advantage of cheap natural gas feedstock. "Three, four and five years ago, we used to compete with Mexico, China and Asia for projects," said Chad Burke, CEO of the Economic Alliance Houston Port Region. "Now Louisiana is our biggest competitor. It's a friendly rivalry between the two states because there's a lot of work to go around. It's a good time to be in the industry," he added.
