Five coal-export facility projects in Oregon and Washington state are expected to spur "critical, private investments for ports and railroads," according to the National Federation of Independent Business. The group recently criticized Oregon Gov. John Kitzhaber and Washington state Gov. Jay Inslee's proposal to evaluate carbon emissions of exported products. "This added hurdle threatens future and existing exports among numerous industries and commodities," said Patrick Connor, NFIB director for Washington state. "A stifled flow of trade from the Pacific Northwest would have a significant negative economic impact to our region."
