Summer internship season is right around the corner, and employers should be careful to abide by Fair Labor Standards Act provisions when hiring unpaid helpers. Several guidelines include making sure the internship is for the benefit of the student, ensuring that the intern does not act as a replacement for a regular employee, providing close supervision for the student and making sure everyone involved is clear on the fact that the experience will be unpaid.
